Vote No on the Detroit Zoo Millage in August 2008.

The City of Detroit owns the animal collection and the buildings. The City of Detroit is in ruins.Best thing for all the animals is to be moved to other zoos.

Shut down the number one attraction in Michigan? (For visitors and members.) Michigan lacks alot of stuff, and to take away one of the best Zoo's in the U.S. that pioneered stuff. I doubt the zoo would close, but the prices would have to increase to compensate. Why should Metro Detroit be punished for something Detroit did? What about all the jobs the zoo has, Over 1,000 volunteers that help keep it running by allowing for the Australian Outback Adventures to stay open, greet and help visitors at gates and roaming patrols? Who is going to take over breading the Wyoming Toad starting to become extinct? Isn't $10/yr worth it?

Does a Museum help save wild life? Nope. Does a zoo? Yes. Lets give these animals a good home since most cannot live in the wild. Go look at the animals, how many people that visit gets to go see them?

Dont let Kwame's gang take the zoo down with them. They gave up control of the zoo, now lets give the zoo what they need to run independently. The zoo is awesome, just go and check out all the families that are bonding there. Check out the kids and what they are learning, the expresiions on their faces.

You've got to be kidding. The zoo attracts over 85% of its visitors from the Wayne, Oakland, Macomb area and honestly, it's not fair to take such a world-class institution away from local citizens. Seriously, it's going to be $10 annually and there will be benefits such as lower membership costs to counties who vote to support the millage.

Even if you don't personally frequent the zoo, it's still a hugely important part of our local community. It's not about Detroit, it's not about being an animal lover, it's not about being a parent or a child or anything like that, it's about supporting a place that is enjoyed by millions annually and about the Southeastern Michigan community as a whole. Loosing the zoo would be a huge mistake. Clearly voting no would be as well.

I hope you'll visit the zoo, as others suggested, and reconsider.
